The Course

Overview

This course explores the meaning of gender and its role throughout history and its impact on modern society. The primary goal of this course is to engage students with key issues, questions,  debates, and policies regarding women and gender. This course will survey the impact of women throughout history, as well as analyze texts written by diverse voices.

This course is not a course of answers but rather a course of questions. Questioning the status quo. Questioning how and why society is structured the way it is. Questioning the impact of the patriarchy and questioning what we can do to change it.

The Course

The necessity of education to be both a window and a mirror for students is imperative. By creating a Women and Gender Studies course for high school, we are giving all students the chance to understand there is more than one story and one perspective from which the world can be viewed. Adding this course to schools will give voice to the people who have always been ‘a part of our past but not a part of our history.’ This course gives all students the ability to know their voice matters.
